UGC introduced the Prime Minister Gold Medal in 2005 with an aim of encouraging talented university students of the country. A total of 233 students who secured the highest marks or CGPA in their respective faculties in 2013 and 2014 were selected by the UGC for the Prime Minister Gold Medal this year, which was first awarded in 2005. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina handed over the Gold Medals as the chief guest among the students, who secured the highest marks or CGPA in their respective faculties at different universities of the country.

Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid will attend the function as the special guest with UGC Chairman Professor Abdul Mannan in the chair. 6 students from different faculties of Bangladesh University of Textiles has been awarded the Prime Minister Gold Medal, under the auspices of Bangladesh University Grants Commission, at the Prime Minister’s Office on 22nd March 2017 for their outstanding academic achievements in honours. The recipients are Azmary Akter Mukhty (Faculty of Textile Chemical Processing Engineering & Applied Science), Faisal Abedin (Faculty of Textile Manufacturing Engineering) and Farhatun Nabi (Faculty of Textile Clothing, Fashion & Business Studies) for the academic year 2013 and Mst. Tania Aktek (Faculty of Textile Chemical Processing Engineering & Applied Science, Marzia Dulal (Faculty of Textile Clothing, Fashion & Business Studies) & Mumtahina Riza (Faculty of Textile Manufacturing Engineering) for the academic year 2014. This is the first time BUTEX students have received the award after it was announced as a University on December 22, 2010.
